On Tuesday night, the Memphis Grizzlies defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 115-113 with a game-winning floater from Ja Morant after a spectacular 34-point season debut.

The Grizzlies, who were on a five-game slump and 6-19 during Morant's 25-game suspension for his gun-related social media posts, trailed by 24 in the first half but led 113-111 on Morant's inside layup with 1:22 left.

Morant's victory followed a Pelicans tie and missed three-pointers.

Memphis ended the Pelicans' four-game winning streak with 24 points from Jaren Jackson Jr. and 21 from Desmond Bane.

Brandon Ingram scored 34 points for New Orleans, but Zion Williamson only scored 13 due to foul problems.

Pelicans fans booed Morant during pregame introductions and on the first possession.

The boos subsided as the game went on, and a section of visiting fans behind the Memphis bench made noise as Morant scored eight points in 1:20 early in the third quarter, twice sinking difficult driving baskets as he was fouled.

Morant's return was seen by LSU Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels and Tigers great receiver Malik Nabers in the front row of New Orleans' bench.
